how i managed to reduce my electricity expenses - Arnab Banerjee - 10-28-2011 03:48 AM

friends i have a problem of huge electricity bill. it runs from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 2500 per month. it was very big problem for average guys like me to pay the bill. so...

i develop a strategy to reduce it.

first i classify the points of my electricity expenses. they can be divided into 6 groups namely:

1. lights
2. fans
3. fridge
4. AC(air conditioner)
5. laptop
6. chimney

then i try to find out how i can control these electricity points so that amount of bill reduced.the points which i can change are as follows:

1. lights ( there are lights that consumes less power and are not costly)

2. laptop ( easily control power consumption)

the rest are the points i cannot change:

1. fans (new fan will have both fixed and variable cost)

2. fridge ( nothing can be altered in current fridge. new fridge costly)

3. AC (same as fridge)
4. chimney ( same as fridge)

now strategy:

i replace old power consuming light with new less power consuming light.
and as for laptop, previously i charge it, no matter it is battery is full or not. but now i first empty its battery and then charge it. as soon as it becomes full, i stop charging it and again empty the battery and so on....

the result:

my electric bill in this month comes to Rs. 1400. from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 1400, it is a big leap. almost 30% reduction.

so hows my story?

Hi Arnab,

Try to keep track on the use of electricity of your appliances. Do best possible way to use minimum amount of appliances which are running on high voltage like AC etc. There is an instrument comes in the market by the name of electricity saver which directly set on the main power line supply near to the electricity meter. Manufacturer claiming that it would helps to save around 20 percent of power supply. Kindly go for it.

many many thanks. i have just found the power saver. it saves up to 40% of electricity. it means if your electric bill shows Rs. 1000, you have to pay only Rs. 600. that's a huge savings. thanks once more.
